Barb Hartman will soon end her 36-year run as a member of the Adams County Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors.
Barb’s commitment to the Alliance is actually longer than that. She was one of the original visionaries who saw a need for an organization committed to countywide economic development.
Prior to ACEDC, an organization was established to administer state loans for industrial use.
In the 1980s, the Board of Commissioners identified the need for a countywide study in which economic development was identified, particularly a commercial industrial park. Franklin County was just a few years ahead of Adams County in identifying the need and making it happen. Frank Sapp went over the mountain and learned all he could from Mike Ross, who is still there doing economic development. Frank came back with a plan and gathered business-minded people to create the 501©6.
Barb, of Coldwell Banker Bigham, Realtors joined the first board of directors in 1989. Her service never stopped and she also stepped up to be board chair several times and also lead several committees. Thank you, Barb, on behalf of not only the current staff and board but all who came before us.
To honor her dedication, our board is honored to name Barb a director emerita. She is welcome at our meetings anytime but even when she is not there, the story of her dedication will serve as inspiration to all those who hold the many positions she proudly held over the decades.
