June is Great Outdoors Month, and there is no better place to celebrate than Adams County.
As summer arrives, the days grow longer, the weather turns warmer, and our community comes alive. From orchards and roadside markets to trails, parks, forests, and historic landscapes, Adams County offers countless ways to get outside and enjoy everything our region has to offer.
Whether you’re hiking through the woods, fishing a local stream, biking a scenic backroad, visiting a fruit stand, or simply spending time outdoors with family, June is the perfect time to explore. Assets such as the Gettysburg National Military Park, Michaux State Forest, and the many community parks found throughout Adams County help make this a wonderful place to live, work, and visit.
At the Adams Economic Alliance, we believe quality of life and economic development go hand in hand. Our mission is to lead diverse and responsible economic growth that strengthens our communities and expands opportunities for residents. Access to outdoor recreation, vibrant downtowns, and thriving gathering places are all important parts of that vision.
One way we are helping strengthen communities is through our Homebuyer Assistance Program. Over the past month, the program has helped three additional families purchase homes in Adams County, bringing the total number of families assisted to 18. Programs like this help more people put down roots, build wealth, and invest in the future of Adams County.
We are also supporting projects that enhance recreation and tourism opportunities throughout Adams County. Through our SPARK Loan Program, we have assisted outdoor tourism-related investments, including Land of Adventures, a new destination designed to encourage outdoor play, imagination, and family experiences. Their vision is to create a one-of-a-kind attraction where children and families can enjoy hands-on activities, fresh-air fun, and lasting memories.
The Alliance also assisted Horse Tours of Gettysburg with its expansion into downtown Gettysburg, helping a growing tourism enterprise provide visitors with another unique way to experience the history, culture, and beauty of Adams County.
These projects may look different on the surface, but they share a common goal: creating places and experiences that enhance everyday life, foster entrepreneurship, attract visitors, and strengthen our economy.
Great Outdoors Month is a reminder that the natural beauty and recreational opportunities found throughout Adams County are more than amenities—they are economic assets. They help attract talent, drive visitor spending, encourage investment, and make Adams County a place where people want to live, work, and invest.
